An Observation

It seems to me that our current political class -- at all levels and in both major parties -- is generally as incompetent and shortsighted as our political class in the late 1700s was effective and far-seeing.

Not to say that there aren't exceptions.

As a corollary, I'd say that among our current crop of "leaders," the higher a position they hold, the less statesmanlike they are.
