So It's Biden

Couple of thoughts, off the top of my head with minimal rumination:

Obama almost had to pick Biden or Richardson in order to get someone with a foreign relations/national security resume on the ticket. Not even Hillary would have done that for him, and I can't think of any other Dem that would fit the bill. Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has the experience but he's a lefty like Obama, and Biden is more middle of the road. Richardson is probably too far left, too, and in addition, I don't think he campaigns all that well.

I have a funny feeling that Biden was not the first choice--remember a few days ago Biden said, "I'm not the guy." That could have been political disinformation, or it could have indicated that Obama had initially picked someone else who for one reason or another demurred, or who disclosed something that would have been a problem if made public during the campaign.
