Ruin of a Once-Great Newspaper II

Now the NYT carries a story that the man who it claimed last Saturday (on which I commented here) was the Abu Ghraib prisoner in an infamous photo has admitted that he is not that prisoner. In a separate correction the paper admits that it did an abysmally poor job of fact-checking, and misquoted its sources.

Does anyone still seriously think of the New York Times as "the newspaper of record?" If so, why?

Credit Little Green Footballs for the ponter.
